FG and World Bank Launch Youth Vocational Training Initiative

The Federal Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has initiated a technical and vocational training program aimed at recruiting 80,000 young Nigerians. The program, implemented through the Federal Ministry of Education’s Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS) Project, officially began its third cohort on October 4, 2026, in Abuja.
The launch ceremony at the Abuja Trade and Convention Centre marked the start of training for 777 participants across seven accredited Training Service Providers in the Federal Capital Territory. The IDEAS Project focuses on providing practical, market-relevant skills through competency development, internships, and employment support.
Training areas include digital and creative media, beauty and cosmetology, construction and building trades, and agriculture. Professor Adesoji Adesugba, First Deputy President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of its Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology Centre, emphasized the importance of matching Nigeria's youth population with the skills needed in the economy.
The seven participating providers will collectively train the 777 participants as part of the broader initiative.
