Super Eagles Fail to Qualify for 2026 FIFA World Cup

The Super Eagles of Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking their second consecutive absence from the tournament. Despite having a roster filled with stars from European leagues, Nigeria struggled in a qualifying group that included Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Lesotho, Benin Republic, and South Africa.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had previously promised to avoid such failures after missing the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Following the conclusion of the 2026 tournament, where Spain emerged as champions, other footballing nations, including France and Germany, have taken decisive steps to improve their teams, appointing Zinedine Zidane and Jurgen Klopp as their new head coaches, respectively.

In contrast, the NFF appears to be complacent, failing to initiate preparations for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers set to begin mid-next year. This lack of urgency raises concerns about the future performance of the Super Eagles.
