FIFA Faces Backlash Over $100 World Cup Train Tickets

FIFA has been criticized for the exorbitant train ticket prices associated with the 2026 World Cup, with costs set to reach $100 for a journey from Penn Station in New York to MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. New Jersey Governor Miki Sherrill expressed her discontent, stating that taxpayers should not be responsible for covering the transport costs for the World Cup.

The ticket prices represent a significant increase from the usual fares, which range from $12 to $90. Sherrill highlighted that FIFA has a financial obligation to provide transport for fans, as stipulated in their agreement, which requires free transport for match ticket holders.

FIFA is expected to confirm these prices officially. The World Cup will feature eight matches, including a group game involving England and the final on July 19.

The transport costs have raised concerns about the financial strain on host cities, with FIFA reportedly set to make $11 billion from the event.
