FIFA and CAF Assess NFF Crisis in Abuja Consultations

FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) began consultations in Abuja on September 14 to evaluate the ongoing crisis within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). This joint assessment mission involves discussions with Nigerian football stakeholders after the resignations of NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and several Executive Committee members.

The leadership upheaval has raised concerns over the NFF's governance and electoral process, especially with an elective congress scheduled for September 27. FIFA and CAF are gathering information rather than imposing immediate changes, focusing on the implications of the resignations and the NFF's legal framework, governance structure, and stakeholder participation.

National Sports Commission Chairman Shehu Dikko is a key figure in these discussions, which aim to address not only the leadership vacuum but also the structural issues affecting Nigerian football administration.
