FIFA Delays Decision on Nigeria Football Federation Future

FIFA has announced that it has not reached a decision regarding the future of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after the resignation of its president, Ibrahim Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and other Executive Committee members. This mass resignation occurred on August 27, 2023, amid scrutiny over the national teams' performances, particularly their failure to qualify for the World Cups.

The resignations came just before the scheduled NFF election on September 27. Following this, the National Sports Commission (NSC) intervened in response to President Bola Tinubu's call for action.

A Nigerian delegation led by NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Zurich on September 1, 2023. FIFA's Chief Member Associations Officer Elkhan Mammadov stated that FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are currently assessing the legal, governance, administrative, and electoral implications of the situation within the NFF.
