FIFA Confirms World Cup Will Proceed Amid Iran Uncertainty

FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated on Thursday that the World Cup will take place as scheduled, emphasizing the organization's commitment to ensuring all teams participate, despite doubts regarding Iran's involvement due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Infantino made these remarks during an online FIFA council meeting held in Zurich.

He expressed anticipation for the tournament, which will feature 48 teams, and highlighted the importance of fair play and mutual respect. The Iranian Football Federation's president, Mehdi Taj, noted that the situation in Iran is complicated by the potential consequences of U.S.-Israeli actions.

Taj mentioned that discussions with FIFA about possibly relocating Iran's matches are underway. The World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the U.S. preparing for the event amid calls for a boycott.

Taj released a video on Wednesday addressing these issues, indicating the need for FIFA to navigate the geopolitical landscape effectively.
