FIFA Defends World Cup Investment Amid UEFA Boycott Threat

FIFA has issued a defense of its controversial proposal to introduce private investment into the FIFA World Cup, stating that “nobody is selling football” despite significant opposition from UEFA and other continental football organizations. UEFA's 55 member associations have unanimously agreed to boycott FIFA competitions if the plan proceeds.

FIFA's statement, released on a Friday, emphasized its commitment to an open consultation process regarding the FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), a commercial subsidiary intended to enhance the commercial operations of the World Cup and other major tournaments. FIFA aims to expand commercial opportunities for its 211 member associations while maintaining the integrity of the sport.

The organization acknowledged the concerns raised by continental confederations and affirmed that discussions would continue to ensure all member associations can review the proposal before voting. FIFA also clarified that no final decision would be made without majority support from its members, dismissing claims that the proposal had already been approved.
