UEFA Considers World Cup Boycott Over FIFA Investment Plan

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) is contemplating a boycott of future FIFA World Cup tournaments due to tensions surrounding FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s proposal to open the World Cup's commercial rights to private investors. UEFA plans to hold an emergency meeting with its 55 member associations to discuss a coordinated response, including the potential boycott.

FIFA aims to raise approximately $4.2 billion by selling minority stakes in FIFA Forward Enterprise (FFE), a new company managing FIFA’s commercial operations. Despite FIFA's assurances that it will maintain control over football governance, UEFA strongly opposes the proposal, asserting that football governance should not be treated as a commercial commodity.

UEFA emphasizes that the heritage and governance of football are not assets to trade and warns that private investment could compromise the integrity of the sport. UEFA is urging national football associations, leagues, clubs, players, supporters, and governments to oppose the proposal.
