FIFA Monitors Iran Situation Ahead of 2026 World Cup

FIFA is closely monitoring developments in Iran in light of recent U.S. military strikes as it prepares for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to kick off in June. The tournament will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Iran has been drawn into Group G of the Asian Football Confederation qualifiers, alongside Belgium, New Zealand, and Egypt. Two of Iran's group matches are set to take place in Los Angeles, with a third match in Seattle.

FIFA's Secretary General, Mattia Grafström, stated that the organization is aware of the situation and is continuously observing events as they unfold. He emphasized that ensuring the safety of participants remains a priority for the tournament.

The World Cup draw is scheduled for December in Washington D.C., where Iranian officials will participate in the ceremony.
