CBN Receives Global Award for Economic Reforms

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was honored with the "Central Bank of the Year 2026" award by a committee in London, recognizing its role in steering Nigeria's economy through a difficult period of instability. Governor Olayemi Cardoso has led extensive reforms aimed at stabilizing the macroeconomic environment, which began after President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023.

The Nigerian economy was under severe strain, characterized by hyperinflation, fiscal bankruptcy, and rapid naira depreciation. The CBN's reform agenda includes the removal of fuel subsidies and the liberalization of the foreign exchange market, which has resulted in a significant reduction in the disparity between official and parallel market exchange rates.

The reforms have also involved restructuring the bank's operations and enhancing transparency. As of November 2025, Nigeria's external reserves reached approximately $46.7 billion, the highest level in nearly seven years, reflecting the positive impact of these reforms on investor confidence and economic stability.
