Fire Destroys Shops Worth Millions at Abuja Market

On Sunday, a fire outbreak at Eda Plaza, a building materials market in Jabi, Abuja, caused extensive damage to shops and goods valued at over N20 million. The fire was reported around 3 am after an eyewitness received a distress call from his brother-in-law, who owned two shops and a packing store in the plaza.

Upon arrival, they found that the fire had spread significantly, destroying one shop and the packing store, while only one shop remained intact. The eyewitness lamented the loss of roofing materials, some of which had been restocked just the night before.

Fortunately, there were no casualties reported. The Julius Berger firefighters’ team, which responded to the incident, reported that they were called at a quarter to 4:00 am and took approximately four hours to control the fire with the assistance of the Federal Fire Department.

They urged the public to prioritize safety and evacuate buildings during such emergencies.
