Fire Destroys Nigeria Customs Service Office in Lagos

On Monday, a fire broke out at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Western Marine Command office located in Apapa, Lagos, resulting in the destruction of property valued at millions of naira. The incident reportedly began at approximately 10:23 am due to an electrical surge in the conference room and quickly spread to other areas of the building.

Officers on duty attempted to control the fire until the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived around 10:45 am. Timothy Jonah, the Deputy Comptroller of Customs, who had just taken over his position, described the situation as unfortunate.

He stated, “Every challenge, though negative, is an opportunity to strengthen our operations,” and announced plans to establish a committee to investigate the fire's cause. Jonah praised the quick actions of the personnel on duty and their collaboration with the fire service, indicating that measures would be implemented to enhance safety protocols and prevent future incidents.
