Firm Sues Nigerian Navy for N771 Million Over Vessel

Sea Delight Marine Wreckage Limited has filed a high-stakes lawsuit against the Nigerian Navy and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) in the Federal High Court, Lagos, seeking N771 million in damages. The firm claims it purchased the vessel MT Dejikun for N130 million in compliance with a court order dated July 3, 2023, but has been denied possession due to alleged unlawful interference by the AGF and the Nigerian Navy.

The firm requests the court to declare that the Chief Registrar and Deputy Chief Registrar breached the contract of sale by failing to complete the auction process. They also seek to rescind the sale contract due to the Navy's failure to deliver the vessel, which has reportedly deteriorated significantly during its prolonged detention.

The firm is demanding a refund of the purchase price with interest, alongside N500 million in punitive damages and N10 million in legal fees. The case is set for hearing on June 15, 2026, with Justice Ayokunle Faji presiding.
