“Fix Hardship, Grow Economy”: Okonjo-Iweala Tells Tinubu, Video Trends

Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), urged the Nigerian government to address the hardships faced by its citizens to stimulate economic growth.

During a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Villa on August 14, she emphasized the need for social safety nets for the poor. Okonjo-Iweala praised the government's economic reforms, such as the removal of petrol subsidies and unification of the foreign exchange window, despite facing criticism.

She also highlighted the importance of empathy and reassurance from political leaders in response to the concerns raised by Nigerians. In a separate incident, former Ekiti State Governor, Fayemi, expressed doubts about supporting Tinubu's administration in the 2023 general election.
