WFP, AfDB, IFPRI Call for Action to Address Insecurity in Northern Nigeria for Food System Recovery

The World Food Programme (WFP), African Development Bank (AfDB), and International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) have jointly called for urgent action to address deep-rooted challenges undermining livelihoods and food systems in Northern Nigeria. The report presented at the 31st Nigerian Economic Summit highlighted the importance of stabilizing the region to unlock its agricultural potential and promote economic recovery.

Former Central Bank Governor and Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, emphasized the need to consider closing Nigeria's northern border as part of efforts to stabilize the region and enhance food security. Recommendations include restructuring food assistance programs and stimulating local production.
