North-east Governors Warn of Crisis Amid Flood and Food Insecurity

Governors from Nigeria's North-east region have raised concerns about an impending humanitarian and economic crisis exacerbated by climate change, insecurity, and poverty. The Governors Forum for the North-east highlighted the vulnerability of the region to floods, escalating agricultural costs, and fragile infrastructure, threatening millions of livelihoods.

The forum, chaired by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, emphasized the urgent need for proactive measures to address the looming challenges. With a credible climate agency predicting devastating floods in the subregion, the governors called for robust sensitization of communities living in flood-prone areas.

They urged the federal government and the North East Development Commission to take immediate action to strengthen critical infrastructure and ensure food security in the face of rising agricultural costs.
