Jigawa State Issues Flood Alert, Urges Precautions

Jigawa State has issued a flood alert, identifying several local government areas (LGAs) at high risk of flooding, including Guri, Kiri, Kasamma, Hadejia, Auyo, Miga, Ringim, Kaugama, Kazaur, Dutsin-Ma, Birnin Kudu, Gwaram, Gantsa, and Malammadori. The state anticipates significant flooding from April to November, with the risk expected to intensify from July to September.

Additional LGAs, such as Taura and Birniwa, are also expected to face threats from flooding in October and November. The Jigawa State Agency for Emergency Management (SEMA), led by Hannafi Yakubu Fagam, has urged residents, particularly in flood-prone communities, to adopt precautionary measures to mitigate potential disaster impacts.

These measures include regular drainage clearing, avoiding refuse dumping in drainage systems, and refraining from building in flood-prone areas. Residents are also advised to stock essential supplies and stay updated on official weather forecasts to prepare for possible evacuations as water levels rise.
