Flutterwave Secures Banking License, Expands Services

Flutterwave has announced the acquisition of a banking license in Nigeria, representing a major transition from its role as a payment processor to a full-service financial infrastructure provider. This development was disclosed via an official post on its X platform.

The new license will enable Flutterwave to deepen its core banking operations, gaining greater control over financial transaction processes and settlement management. The company plans to offer a broader suite of services, including account payments, payouts, and capital solutions within a unified system.

This move is expected to significantly improve settlement speed and enhance the reliability of service delivery, providing a seamless user experience for businesses on its platform. The licensing comes at a time of increased regulatory scrutiny for fintech firms in Nigeria, particularly those operating virtual asset services.

Flutterwave's banking license aligns with compliance initiatives under the Money Laundering Act 2022 and the Bank Financial Institution Act 2020. Additionally, Flutterwave's recent acquisition of Mono for $25 million to $40 million further strengthens its capabilities in building an integrated financial ecosystem across Africa.
