Nigeria's Food Prices Drop 50% Amid Agricultural Reforms

The Nigerian Federal Government, through Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, announced a major 50% reduction in food prices nationwide compared to the previous year. This achievement is part of the government's strategy to enhance local food production and reduce dependence on imports, thereby ensuring affordable access to nutritious food for Nigerians.

Kyari highlighted that food security is a top priority for the administration, which aims to stabilize the nation and protect its sovereignty. The government has implemented various interventions, including the distribution of 1.9 million bags of fertilizer to nearly one million farmers and the promotion of sustainable agricultural practices.

Additionally, the government is working to strengthen the agricultural value chain, focusing on key crops such as rice, maize, and cassava. Future interventions planned for 2024-2025 include improving seed distribution and pest management.

The government also aims to empower smallholder farmers and enhance their transition to commercial agriculture, contributing to national food security and economic growth.
