Gheorghe Hagi Returns as Romania's National Team Coach

Gheorghe Hagi, the legendary Romanian footballer, has been appointed as the coach of the Romanian national team, a role he last held over two decades ago. Announced during a press conference in Bucharest, Hagi, 61, signed a four-year contract and expressed his ambition to win every game and qualify for the 2028 European Championship.

His return comes after Mircea Lucescu, the previous coach, suffered a heart attack earlier in the month. Hagi, who made 124 appearances for Romania and captained the team to the quarter-finals of the 1994 World Cup, emphasized his commitment to not just exist in the role but to achieve significant victories.

He aims to overcome the disappointment of the team's failure to qualify for the 1998 World Cup, with their latest attempt ending in a 1-0 defeat to Turkey in the playoff semi-final in March.
