Comrade Biodun Jeyifo Celebrates 80th Birthday in Lagos

Comrade Biodun Jeyifo, known as BJ, will be honored on March 4, 2024, in Ibadan, Oyo State. He is a distinguished first-class student, Professor Emeritus of English at Cornell University, and a former Professor Emeritus of Comparative Literature at Harvard University.

On January 5, 2024, a gathering took place at the Muson Centre in Lagos to celebrate his 80th birthday, featuring a lecture by Priyamvada Gopal titled "Afraid to Decolonize: Pedagogy and Curriculum." This event reflected Jeyifo's lifelong commitment to social justice and education. Notable attendees included Wole Soyinka, who acknowledged Jeyifo's significant impact on academia and labor activism.

Despite health challenges, Jeyifo's spirit and energy were evident during the celebration. The event also served as a platform to discuss the establishment of the Socialist Library in Nigeria, which Jeyifo chairs.

His legacy as a scholar and activist continues to inspire many.
