Tinubu Launches Nigerian Forest Guard to Combat Insecurity

President Bola Tinubu launched the Nigerian Forest Guard initiative to address insecurity in Nigeria, particularly in forest reserves that have become hotspots for terrorist activities and kidnappings. The initiative, which began a year ago, has deployed 7,000 trained guards across northern states including Borno, Sokoto, Yobe, Adamawa, Niger, Kwara, and Kebbi.

In response to ongoing security challenges, an additional 1,000 forest guards will be recruited. The initiative aims to collaborate with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and local hunters to enhance security and reclaim territories seized by criminals.

Despite these efforts, the impact of the forest guards has been minimal, as terrorist groups continue to launch attacks across various regions, including the northwest and northeastern states. The initiative is seen as a crucial element in Nigeria's security framework, with the potential to significantly disrupt criminal activities if effectively implemented.
