Tinubu Approves 1,000 Forest Guards for Katsina Security Push

President Tinubu has green-lit recruitment of 1,000 forest guards in Katsina State to tackle banditry and kidnapping in remote areas.

Katsina State will see 1,000 forest guards recruited following approval by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking a significant step in countering widespread banditry and kidnapping. During discussions held at the government house with Islamic clerics and community stakeholders, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda unveiled this initiative.

According to the governor, these newly hired personnel will receive proper training and equipment to patrol woodland areas and isolated settlements serving as bases for criminal gangs. Working in tandem with military forces, police departments, state security services, and community vigilante groups, they aim to bolster safety across vulnerable regions.

The governor explained that this decision came after extensive dialogue with religious figures and other community representatives consulted regarding Katsina's pressing security issues. Radda emphasized that addressing insecurity demands action beyond what security agencies can accomplish independently, framing the forest guard program as part of a coordinated strategy involving both federal and state-level coordination.

This recruitment signals a transition toward integrating community participation and local expertise into protective measures. Wooded zones throughout Katsina have remained troubling hotspots, with dangerous groups taking advantage of rugged topography and isolation from populated areas to pursue their activities largely unimpeded.
