Vieira Reflects on Senegalese Roots Before World Cup Clash

Patrick Vieira, the former captain of the French national team and a 1998 World Cup winner, spoke about his Senegalese roots ahead of the World Cup match between France and Senegal. Vieira, who emigrated from Senegal to France at a young age, expressed pride in wearing the French shirt while also feeling a strong connection to Senegal.

He recalled the historic 2002 World Cup match where Senegal defeated France 1-0 in the tournament's opening game. Vieira acknowledged the impressive progress made by Senegal's football, particularly through the Diambar Academy, which he helped establish in 2003.

This academy has produced many Senegalese internationals, including Idrissa Gueye. Vieira believes that Senegal's current squad is strong enough to pose challenges to their opponents in every World Cup match.
