Former Napoli Director Denies Racism Claims Against Osimhen

Mauro Meluso, the former sporting director of Napoli, has rejected accusations of racism directed at Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen. The controversy arose from a TikTok video posted by Galatasaray forward, which suggested Napoli's missed penalty had racist undertones.

This incident sparked significant debate and was a key factor in Osimhen's deteriorating relationship with Napoli, leading to his exit from the club in the summer of 2024. Meluso spoke on Radio Napoli Central, defending the club and asserting that there was no intent to insult or humiliate Osimhen.

He emphasized Napoli's commitment to combating discrimination, despite Osimhen scoring 76 goals in 133 appearances and helping the club secure the Serie A title in the 2022-23 season. Meluso acknowledged the emotional toll the situation had on Osimhen, who eventually left Napoli for a loan to Galatasaray, which was completed as a permanent transfer after an impressive season in Turkey.
