Former NEXIM MD Sentenced to 490-Year Jail Term for Financial Crimes

Former Managing Director of NEXIM Bank, Orya, has been sentenced to a 490-year jail term by Justice F. E Messiri for committing economic and financial crimes.

Orya, who served as the Managing Director of NEXIM Bank from 2009 to 2016, was found guilty of 10 counts of alleged economic and financial crimes. The charges were filed by the EFCC, with Samuel Ugwuegbulem serving as Orya's counsel during the trial.

Orya's tenure at NEXIM Bank was marked by efforts to refocus the bank's support towards non-oil exports to improve its performance amidst financial challenges. The EFCC brought a total of 49 charges against Orya, accusing him of fraudulently diverting funds amounting to N2.4 billion.
