UNILAG Don Highlights Concerns Over Nigeria's Fragmented Transport Policies

Professor Samuel Iyiola Oni from UNILAG expressed worries about Nigeria's transport system's weaknesses due to fragmented policies and inconsistent governance during a lecture at Yabatech. He noted that the absence of a cohesive national transport plan has led to duplicative projects, conflicting investments, and poor resource utilization, hampering economic growth and spatial development.

Oni stressed the importance of adopting stable and coherent transport policies to enhance institutional coordination and multimodal transport development. The lecture series, named after Dr.

Abubakar Mobolaji Olaseni, aimed to address the disconnect in transport investments and regional planning in Nigeria. Yabatech's rector, Dr.

Ibraheem Abdul, commended Olaseni's contributions to academic quality and leadership in national development. The close working relationship between Olaseni and former leaders like Dr.

Margaret Ibiyey Ladipo was highlighted for its positive impact on infrastructure, academic delivery, and staff-student relations at Yabatech.
