Ekitike Out of 2026 World Cup Due to Achilles Injury

Hugo Ekitike, a 23-year-old forward, has been ruled out of the 2026 World Cup due to a ruptured Achilles tendon sustained during a Champions League clash against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday. The injury occurred at Anfield, where Liverpool lost 2-0 in the quarter-final second leg, resulting in a 4-0 aggregate defeat.

Medical staff attended to Ekitike, who was carried off on a stretcher. The French Football Federation (FFF) has not provided immediate comments regarding his condition.

Ekitike has scored 17 goals in competitions this season and was signed by Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt for £69 million (approximately €93.58 million) in July. The World Cup is scheduled to take place in the United States, Mexico, and Canada from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
