Nigeria's Healthcare Crisis: Urgent Reforms Needed Now

The frequent deaths of patients in emergency situations attributed to alleged hospital negligence have sparked widespread public concern across Nigeria. Critically ill patients reportedly face delays in receiving urgent medical attention, sometimes resulting in fatalities.

Families of victims are left devastated, and public confidence in health institutions continues to erode. Citizens are demanding a comprehensive overhaul of hospital management systems and emergency response protocols.

In a telephone interview with Daily Post, Prof. Akiola Akimad, Chief Medical Officer at Afebablola University, emphasized that saving lives is the first priority in hospitals.

He noted that in emergencies, such as gunshot wounds, hospitals face challenges with standard protocols. Activist Eneh Obi described the situation as disappointing, highlighting issues such as hospitals rejecting patients due to lack of deposits and insufficient medical supplies.

Obi criticized government policies and called for stronger corporate social responsibility within private healthcare institutions. She urged authorities to enforce existing health laws to protect patients and prevent tragedies due to hospital neglect.
