Fresh Crisis Brews In PDP Over Zoning

A fresh crisis has erupted within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over the zoning of the party's national leadership ahead of the planned National Convention in November. Southern party leaders held meetings in Abuja and Lagos to discuss the zoning of offices for the upcoming convention.

The Lagos meeting was attended by prominent figures, including Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa and Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State. However, some leaders in Abuja, led by Minister Nyesom Wike, opposed the Lagos meeting, calling it illegal.

The disagreement highlights a larger power struggle within the party, with factions supporting different presidential candidates for the 2023 election cycle. The crisis comes amidst previous defections and internal conflicts within the party, indicating a deeper rift between key party figures.
