Fuel Tanker Overturns on Anambra Road, No Casualties

On Thursday, 11th September 2026, a 40ft tanker loaded with Premium Motor Spirit overturned on the Onitsha-Owerri Road at Upper Iweka, blocking traffic and raising concerns of a potential explosion. The incident was attributed to a bad portion of the road that caused a steering system failure.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The Anambra State Fire Service was promptly notified and dispatched firefighters and equipment to the scene to mitigate risks.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver lost control while navigating the damaged road. Chukwudi Chiketa, Head of Media and Publicity for the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and stated that firefighters commenced operations to secure the area and clear the roadway.

The operations were successfully completed, and the Fire Service will continue to monitor the situation to prevent further hazards. Motorists are advised to exercise caution in the area.
