Petrol tanker overturns on Anambra road, no casualties

On Sunday, around 2 pm, a fully loaded petrol tanker belonging to Nazito Filling Station overturned on the Onitsha-Owerri Road near the Army Checkpoint in Ihiala, Anambra State, due to a steering-system failure. The incident caused significant panic among motorists and shop owners, leading to the closure of nearby shops and traffic obstruction.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported. The Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call at approximately 1431 hours and promptly mobilized firefighters and equipment to the scene to mitigate any potential fire hazards.

Eyewitnesses reported that the driver lost control while attempting to navigate into the service lane. Chukwudi Chiketa, the Head of Media and Publicity for the Anambra State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and urged the public to remain calm and avoid actions that could lead to danger around fallen fuel tankers.

He also emphasized the importance of regular vehicle maintenance for heavy-duty and tanker vehicles.
