Twelve Lawmakers Defect from PDP to APC and ADC

On Thursday, a significant political shift occurred in Nigeria as twelve lawmakers announced their defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) during a plenary session. Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu disclosed that six lawmakers joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), while others moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Young Progress Party (YPP).

The defectors included notable figures such as Muktar Aliyu Betara and Zakari Dauda Nyampa, who submitted their resignation letters to the House. Kalu emphasized that the formal announcement of these defections would occur when the lawmakers were physically present in the chamber.

The defectors from PDP to APC included Bamisile Komolafe and Beatrice Loweri, while Peter Ifeanyi Uzokw and Bright Iyamu were among those joining ADC. Kalu described this development as part of ongoing political realignments within the National Assembly.
