US Embassy in Nigeria Announces Holiday Closures for 2026
The US Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos will close five times between October and December 2026 due to public holidays. The closures are scheduled for Monday, October 12, for Columbus Day; Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans Day; Thursday, November 26, for Thanksgiving Day; Friday, December 25, for Christmas Day, recognized by both Nigeria and the US; and Saturday, December 26, for Boxing Day, a recognized Nigerian holiday.
The embassy has advised individuals seeking visa applications, passport renewals, or notarial appointments to plan accordingly, as routine public services will not be available on these dates. Emergency assistance for US citizens will remain accessible throughout the holiday periods, regardless of the missions' closure status.
