UNICEF and Gavi Deliver 371 Solar-Powered Health Centers

On Thursday, UNICEF and Gavi officially handed over 371 solar-powered primary health care centers to the Federal Government of Nigeria. This initiative, part of the Primary Health Care Solaris Project, aims to improve access to essential services in off-grid communities and enhance vaccination cold chain management.

The ceremony, held in Abuja, was attended by Prof. Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, who emphasized the importance of this project in strengthening the healthcare system.

The partnership is expected to support Nigeria's goal of reaching 100 million children through vaccination campaigns, addressing the needs of 47 million visits recorded at primary health centers. Dr.

Muyi Aina, Executive Director of NPHCDA, highlighted the critical role of solar power in ensuring reliable healthcare delivery. The project targets 100 zero-dose local government areas where children remain unvaccinated due to lack of access to essential healthcare services.

The initiative reflects a commitment to sustainable health investments and improving immunization coverage across Nigeria.
