FG Approves N32bn for Primary Health Care Facilities

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved the disbursement of N32 billion from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to improve primary health care facilities across the country. This decision was announced by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Muhammad Ali Pate, following a quarterly meeting of the ministerial oversight committee.

The funding is part of President Bola Tinubu's initiative to renew investments in the health sector and ensure progress in various dimensions. The committee reviewed the performance of primary health care, including utilization rates and immunization coverage.

The funds will directly benefit facilities, with 5,000 expected to receive financial support. Additionally, the government aims to enhance emergency obstetric services, providing free treatment for complications affecting women.

The initiative also includes a free fistula treatment program that has already reached 4,000 women. The government emphasizes the importance of transparency in public health funding and the safety of health workers during outbreaks, committing to ongoing training and protective measures.
