GCF Launches Dialogue in Ghana to Boost Climate Investment

The Green Climate Fund (GCF) has commenced a high-level regional dialogue in Accra, Ghana, aimed at accelerating climate investment across West and Central Africa. The event gathered over 200 delegates from 25 countries, including National Designated Authorities, Ministries of Finance, and private sector representatives.
Ghana’s Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, emphasized that the challenge is no longer about the need for climate finance but about mobilizing it quickly and effectively. He stated the importance of transforming climate priorities into investable projects.
GCF Director for Africa Region, Catherine Koffman, noted the dialogue's goal to shift from merely financing projects to transforming systems and economies. The GCF has committed $2.9 billion to 80 projects in the region, leveraging an additional $5.7 billion in co-financing, totaling $8.6 billion, with private capital being crucial for accelerating climate solutions.
