German Doctor Faces 130 Sexual Abuse Charges

A 46-year-old German paediatrician has been charged with 130 counts of sexual abuse targeting children, as announced by prosecutors on Wednesday. The alleged offenses occurred between December 1, 2013, and November 5, 2022, while the doctor was employed at Havelland Kliniken in the towns of Rathenow and Nauen in Brandenburg state, near Berlin.

The charges include aggravated sexual abuse and rape. The case was made public on May 6, and the doctor is currently in pretrial detention.

The investigation began after the mother of a female patient at Rathenow hospital alerted the police, leading to the seizure of numerous data storage devices. This case follows a similar incident involving a French surgeon, Joel Le Scouarnec, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for abusing 298 patients from 1989 to 2014.
