Germany Allows Visa-Free Entry for Eight Countries

Germany has confirmed that citizens from eight countries, including the United States, can enter the country without a prior visa and apply for a residence permit upon arrival. The countries included in this arrangement are Australia, Canada, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the Republic of Korea.

Upon arrival, individuals must go directly to the local immigration office, known as the Ausländerbehörde, to initiate the residency application process. New arrivals are required to register their address (Anmeldung) within two weeks and submit their formal residence permit application within the first 90 days.

While this arrangement provides significant flexibility compared to standard visa applications, it comes with conditions; nationals entering under this scheme are not automatically allowed to work and can only begin employment once a residence permit that authorizes work is issued. Additionally, this benefit does not apply to intra-corporate transfers.
