Ghana repatriates 120 Nigerians involved in cybercrime

Ghana has repatriated 120 Nigerian nationals who were arrested during a multinational crackdown on cybercrime. The individuals were allegedly trafficked to Ghana and forced to engage in cybercriminal activities.
Sam George, Ghana’s Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, announced this development on X, thanking the Ghana Air Force and the Ministry of Defence for their assistance in the repatriation. The operation, named Operation Cyberhunt, was conducted by Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority in collaboration with security agencies from Ghana, Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
During the operation, authorities seized 136 mobile phones, 130 laptops, internet connectivity devices, and four motor vehicles, one of which was stolen from Canada. Investigators also recovered valuable jewellery and 10 Nigerian passports.
Eight other individuals are facing prosecution as investigations continue. George reiterated Ghana’s commitment to preventing its territory from being used for cybercrime under President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
