Dangote Refinery Averts Nigeria's Fuel Crisis Amid Oil Spike

Economists have praised the Dangote Refinery for its role in averting a fuel crisis in Nigeria amidst a global oil price surge. The refinery, with a capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, has implemented measures to adjust its ex-depot price of petrol to N100 per liter, representing a 12% increase, while crude oil prices have surged by 32%.

Bismarck Rewane, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of a financial derivatives company, noted that without the refinery, Nigeria would face acute product scarcity and significant price increases. Dr.

Muda Yusuf, Managing Director of the Central Promoter of Private Enterprises, highlighted the refinery as a major stabilizing factor for Nigeria's energy security. Despite the refinery's efforts, concerns remain about the adequacy of crude supply and the impact of global oil market volatility on domestic fuel prices.

Afolabi Olowooker emphasized the need for urgent attention to domestic crude supply to enhance the refinery's operational capacity.
