Dangote Refinery Ensures Fuel Supply Amid Global Crisis

Dangote Petroleum Refinery issued a statement on March 5, 2023, assuring Nigerians that it will prioritize domestic supply of refined petroleum products to prevent fuel scarcity in the country, despite the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. The refinery emphasized its commitment to stabilizing Nigeria's energy market amid global supply disruptions caused by conflicts in the region, which have led to shutdowns of refineries in several countries and reduced refining output.

The company noted that the international supply chain is under pressure due to a ban on gasoline and diesel exports from China, contributing to rising fuel prices and uncertainty in the global energy market. Despite these challenges, Dangote Refinery plans to absorb 20% of cost increases to cushion the impact on consumers.

The refinery also highlighted that it receives five crude cargoes monthly from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company, which is insufficient to meet local demand. To improve logistics and distribution, the refinery will deploy compressed natural gas-powered trucks starting this month.
