GMLD President Urges Nigeria to Boost Local Diagnostic Reagent Production for Healthcare Sovereignty

Dr. Samuel Fele, President of the Guild of Medical Laboratory Directors (GMLD), expressed concern over Nigeria's heavy reliance on imported diagnostic reagents during the 27th GMLD National Scientific Conference.

He highlighted the country's significant expenditure on importing 70% of these essential materials, emphasizing the need to boost local production to enhance Nigeria's diagnostic sovereignty. Fele stressed the importance of indigenous solutions in strengthening the nation's healthcare system.

With the global diagnostics market projected to grow substantially, he urged Nigeria to capitalize on its population and resources to reduce dependency on foreign supplies and enhance medical self-sufficiency.
