Gombe Athletics Chairman Launches Mini-Marathon for Talent

The chairman of athletics in Gombe, Dan Amar, initiated a mini-marathon to uncover hidden athletic talents in the region. The maiden race took place in Gombe and attracted a significant turnout of sports enthusiasts.

Amar, a former long-distance runner, expressed his desire to give back to the community after a decade-long competitive career. He emphasized the importance of grassroots athletic development and the need for Gombe athletes to gain exposure at national levels.

The event was well-received, and Amar assured that future editions would be better organized. The winners of the race were Felix Fide in the male category and Brenda in the female category, both receiving cash prizes of N150,000.

Additionally, second and third place finishers received N100,000 and N50,000, respectively. Malam Babuga, the education secretary of Gombe Local Government Area, commended the initiative as a timely intervention to boost youth participation in sports.
