Gombe Rep Yaya Tongo Dies in Abuja Hospital

Yaya Tongo, a member of the House of Representatives representing the Kwami/Funakaye/Gombe Federal Constituency, died on June 12, 2026, in Nizamiy Hospital, Abuja. Tongo was elected in 2023 on the platform of the People's Democratic Party but defected to the African Democratic Congress in March 2026.

His death was announced by former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami, who visited Tongo in the hospital earlier that day.

Pantami, along with Alhaji Bappa Ahmad Abdullahi and other colleagues, visited Tongo between 3:30 PM and 3:50 PM. Despite the critical condition observed, Pantami expressed trust in Allah.

Tongo's passing was confirmed shortly after the visit, and Pantami offered prayers for Tongo's eternal rest and strength for the family. As of the time of the report, the House of Representatives had not issued an official statement regarding Tongo's death.
