Google, Microsoft, TikTok Disable 13.5m Nigerian Accounts Over Policy Violations

Google, Microsoft, and TikTok have collectively disabled 13.5 million Nigerian accounts due to policy violations, including spam, misinformation, impersonation, child safety issues, copyright infringement, and inauthentic behavior. This action was part of a broader crackdown on fraudulent and harmful activities in Nigeria, a significant digital market in Africa.

The move was disclosed in compliance reports submitted to Nigerian authorities under the Code of Practice for Interactive Computer Service Platforms and Internet Intermediaries framework. The submission aimed to make the internet safer for Nigerian users.

The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) highlighted the importance of creating a responsible online environment.
