Google and Slum2School Launch Folktales Initiative in Nigeria

Google has partnered with Slum2School Africa to promote Nigerian folktales through an innovative educational initiative. This collaboration aims to address the shortage of educational materials in Nigeria by distributing 1,000 culturally significant books directly to primary school pupils in underserved communities.

The project features contributions from notable creative contributors, including Broda Shaggi, Falz, and Layi Wasabi, who participated in an imaginative workshop to share cultural stories. The initiative utilizes generative AI tools to translate cultural ideas and heritage into high-quality art, ensuring that the final products meet appropriate educational standards for children.

Otto Orondaam, the founder of Slum2School Africa, emphasized the power of education as a tool to break the cycle of poverty, stating that education begins when a child enters the classroom and starts to engage with stories. The project aims to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has access to resources that will shape their future.
