Abia Governor Alex Otti Avoids Choosing 2027 Candidate

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State, during an interview with ARISE News, declined to reveal whether he would support President Bola Tinubu or Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi in the upcoming 2027 presidential election. Otti stated that his preferred candidate must be capable of winning the election.

He emphasized that as a member of the government, he cannot openly oppose Tinubu's candidacy, as doing so could create divisions within the administration. Otti expressed that disagreements over policies should be discussed internally rather than publicly.

He acknowledged that while he supports certain policies of the Tinubu administration, such as the removal of the petrol subsidy, this does not equate to an endorsement of Tinubu's re-election bid. Otti has long opposed fuel subsidies, advocating for government resources to be directed towards production rather than consumption.
