Governor Sule Backs Senator Wadada for APC Ticket in 2027

Governor Abdullahi Sule is in a contentious relationship with ex-Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura and ex-Governor Abdullahi Adamu regarding the APC governorship candidate for 2027. Adamu led a request for the ticket to rotate to Nasarawa West, which Sule supported, citing over 20 years without representation from that zone.

Sule endorsed Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as his preferred candidate. Al-Makura opposed this endorsement, claiming it violated party procedures due to a lack of consultation with key stakeholders.

Initially, Adamu was non-committal about Wadada's candidacy but later expressed full support during a stakeholders' meeting, emphasizing the need for power to shift to Nasarawa West. Following the primary, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu defected to the SDP after losing the APC ticket, prompting defections among Al-Makura's allies, including Mohammed Musa Danazumi, who also joined the SDP.

Al-Makura, serving as the North-Central Coordinator of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, has not campaigned since Wadada's emergence as the APC flag-bearer.
