Kano Governor Accused of Blocking ADC Campaign Billboards

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has been accused of obstructing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from erecting campaign billboards throughout the state. Salihu Tanko Yakasai, a prominent ADC member, made these allegations in a Facebook statement, claiming that the state government is preventing the opposition party from utilizing billboard spaces for their campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Yakasai criticized the governor's actions, likening them to restrictions previously imposed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in other states. He urged Governor Yusuf to remember the transient nature of political power and warned that political fortunes can change.

The controversy arises amidst existing regulations on outdoor advertising in Kano State, which were announced shortly after Yusuf took office in June 2023. These regulations aimed to control outdoor advertising and required the use of approved billboards and electronic platforms for political messaging, while also directing the removal of indiscriminately placed posters.
